Doctors Association Kashmir President Dr Suhail Naik in a communique stated that the "Principal of Government Dental College(GDC),Srinagar is playing with the career of it’s post graduate dental students. It is pertinent to mention that a delegation of MDS Orthodontics students met us about two  months back and briefed about the harassment being faced by them through their Head of Department (HOD). The delegation informed us that they have been mentally, physically and emotionally tormented by him.

The height of the matter is that they have been forced to do his personal and household work, including car wash, ferrying family members to the airport and children to school for which they provided us with the documental and other electronic evidence”. “Based on the representations made out to DAK, we formed our own committee of 3 members who met HOD Orthodontics among various other faculty members, aggrieved MDS students, Registrars and undergraduate students of the GDC, Srinagar.

To conclude the report DAK tried to meet the Principal GDC but he categorically refused to talk on this sensitive matter instead of started discussing non-relevant issues. It’s very forlorn on the part of Principal GDC who showed cold shoulder towards a very serious matter in which the career of our budding dentists is at stake”, Dr Naik further said. “Seeing no light at the end of the tunnel, students of GDC, Srinagar went on an indefinite strike  at that time which compelled the Govt. to form a committee headed by Divisional Commissioner.

Based on the report made by the District Commissioner the HOD Orthodontics was removed from the post.It is now more than 2 months since then but the students have not been assigned any guide, and their Principal is deliberately using dilly dallying tactics to take the revenge from them so that there exam gets delayed and nobody in future would try to raise his voice against the injustice which has become a norm in the GDC,Srinagar and to add insult to the injury the exisination forms of these students have not been and in the meantime exam date sheet has been issued by the university which is starting from 15th  of May but the “orthodontics dept.” figures nowhere in the exam date sheet”,Dr Naik added “We are astonished that how can a person who has been given a charge of Care Taker Principal many years back still continues to be on this sacred chair though according to Hon’ble Supreme Court guidelines Govt. has to  make a permanent arrangement for post within 6 months.

The Principal has also been charged with a criminal case by vigilance dept.  of Kashmir and have further recommended his removal from the post but he still continues to be there, unless and until there isn’t a deep seated unholy nexus it wouldn’t have been possible that he is still continuing on that chair”, Dr Naik further added. DAK urges Hon’ble Chief Minister for immediate intervention in this grave issue of the aggrieved students whose career is at stake so that sanctity of the prestigious Institute is maintained. DAK also appeals the Vice Chancellor University to take the students out from this mess.
